American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana)

American Cockroach Control in Brampton, Mississauga, Ontario, Toronto, Canada and other GTA. American cockroach adults grow to an average length of around 4 cm (1.6 in) and about 7 mm (0.28 in) tall. They are reddish brown and have a yellowish margin on the body region behind the head. Immature cockroaches resemble adults except they are wingless. The cockroach is divided in three sections; the body is flattened and broadly oval, with a shield-like pronotum covering its head. A pronotum is a plate-like structure that covers all or part of the dorsal surface of the thorax of certain insects. They also have chewing mouth parts, long, segmented antennae, and leathery fore wings with delicate hind wings. The third section of the cockroach is the abdomen.

The insect can travel quickly, often darting out of sight when someone enters a room, and can fit into small cracks and under doors despite its fairly large size. It is considered one of the fastest running insects. Both male and female American cockroaches can fly. The wings develop when the roaches become adults. American cockroaches normally live outdoors. They prefer warm, damp areas like flowerbeds, and under mulch. They eat crumbs, scraps of food and spilled food that they find. They will also eat pet food that is left out overnight. Cockroaches produce a chemical called an "aggregation pheromone." The odor of this chemical causes the roaches to stay together in groups.

Among all the cockroaches American Cockroach is the largest one you will see around your area. The nymphal stage of cockroach is wingless. There are approximately 16 eggs in each egg capsule. From the hatching time to full maturity it takes 7-10 moults. Research reveals American cockroach can live up to two years. As per experiment at Berkeley conducted by University of California in 1991 American cockroach travelled with 3.4mph speed. If we compare with human being it is like person running at 205mph. As per research Adult cockroach can have life span of 1 year, and can produce 150 nymphs.
