Mice and rats look for warmth, food and shelter, which is why many people notice them when the weather turns cold.

A mouse can squeeze through a gap about the size of a dime. Once inside, rodents chew wires, insulation and food packaging, and leave droppings wherever they travel.

Trapping alone doesn't stop new ones from getting in, so we also show you the possible entry points we find. Sealing and rodent-proofing, where needed, are quoted separately.

Signs of mice or rats

Rodents are quick and mostly active at night. These are the signs most people find first:

  • Droppings

Small dark droppings along walls, in cupboards, under sinks or behind appliances.

  • Gnaw marks

Chewed food boxes, wires or baseboards, or holes in drywall and insulation.

  • Noises at night

Scurrying or squeaking in walls, ceilings or under floors.

  • Nests

Shredded paper, fabric or insulation bunched up in hidden corners, attics or storage boxes.

  • Rub marks and tracks

Greasy smudges along walls and pipes, or tracks in the dust in the garage or basement.

Common rodent entry points

Most rodent problems start outside. These are common openings we check for:

  • Damaged or loose dryer and exhaust vents
  • Gaps under or beside garage doors
  • Gaps around pipes, cables and utility lines
  • Cracks in the foundation and gaps around windows
  • Openings at the roofline, soffits and eaves

Sealing and rodent-proofing (quoted separately)

Sealing entry points, also called exclusion or rodent-proofing, means closing the gaps rodents use to get inside.

It isn't included in our rodent control service. Sealing and rodent-proofing, where needed, are quoted separately. We'll show you the openings we find so you can decide.

Our mice and rat control process

Rodent control works best when you know how rodents are getting in as well as where they're active inside.

  1. Step 1: Inspect

We look inside and outside for droppings, nests and entry points such as vents, garage doors and gaps around pipes.

  2. Step 2: Plan

We show you the possible entry points and explain the control measures. Sealing and rodent-proofing, where needed, are quoted separately. You receive a quote and approve the price before any treatment begins.

  3. Step 3: Treat

We use baiting and trapping where rodents are active, placed to suit your home or business.

  4. Step 4: Follow up & prevent

We use monitoring to check for activity and share prevention advice. Follow-up visits may be recommended or included depending on the service package.

How to prepare for rodent control

Good preparation helps us find where rodents are active. You'll usually be asked to:

  • Secure food, including pet food and birdseed, in sealed hard containers.
  • Reduce clutter in the garage, basement and storage areas.
  • Make the areas we need to inspect easy to reach.

Final preparation instructions will be provided based on the treatment method and product requirements.

Service warranty available, conditions apply. Subject to following our preparation and prevention recommendations.

Common questions

How do I know if it's mice or rats?
Rat droppings are larger — closer to the size of a raisin — while mouse droppings are more like a grain of rice. Rats also make louder noises and bigger gnaw holes. We'll confirm which one you have at the inspection.
How are mice getting into my home?
Usually through small gaps: damaged vents, gaps under garage doors, openings around pipes and cracks in the foundation. Finding these entry points is part of our inspection.
Is sealing the entry points included?
No. Our rodent control covers inspection, identifying possible entry points and the right control measures. Sealing and rodent-proofing, where needed, are quoted separately. We'll show you the openings we find so you can decide.
How long does rodent control take?
It depends on how many rodents there are and how they're getting in. Follow-up visits may be recommended or included depending on the service package.
Why do mice show up in the fall?
As temperatures drop, mice look for warm shelter and food. That's why many people first notice them in the fall and early winter. Sealing gaps before the cold arrives helps.
Do you handle rodents in businesses?
Yes. We provide rodent control for businesses and commercial buildings, including inspection and monitoring.
