Wasp nests start small in spring and can grow much larger by late summer.

Wasps defend their nest, and some kinds can sting more than once. That makes nests near doors, decks and walkways a real risk.

We locate the nest, including ones that are hard to find, and treat it at the source. Wasp and hornet service is offered subject to inspection and safe access.

Signs of a wasp or hornet nest

You'll usually notice the wasps before the nest. Look for:

  • Steady traffic

Wasps flying in and out of the same spot again and again, such as a gap in the siding.

  • Paper nests

Grey, papery nests under eaves, in trees, shrubs, sheds or attics.

  • Ground nests

Wasps going in and out of a hole in the lawn or garden — common with yellow jackets.

  • Wasps indoors

Wasps in the attic, near light fixtures or around windows, which can mean a nest in a wall or ceiling.

  • Scraped wood

Light scraping marks on fences or decks, where wasps collect wood fibre to build nests.

Wasps, hornets and yellow jackets

Yellow jackets are small and bright yellow and black. They often nest in the ground or in wall voids, and get aggressive in late summer, especially around food and garbage.

Hornets, including bald-faced hornets, build large grey paper nests in trees, shrubs and under eaves.

Paper wasps build open, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, decks, railings and light fixtures.

Carpenter bees and cicada killers

Carpenter bees look like bumblebees but drill neat round holes in decks, fascia and wood trim to nest. Over time, they can damage the wood.

Cicada killers are large wasps that dig burrows in sandy soil and lawns. They look alarming, but they rarely sting people.

Why you shouldn't remove a large nest yourself

Disturbing a nest can set off a defensive swarm. Ladders, roof edges and hidden ground nests add to the risk.

Store-bought sprays often don't reach the centre of the nest, and sealing an entrance can send wasps into your walls or home. For large nests, nests in walls, or anyone with a sting allergy, call a professional.

Our wasp and hornet removal process

Nest removal is about finding the right spot and treating it properly, so the whole colony is dealt with.

  1. Step 1: Inspect

We find the nest and identify the species, including nests hidden in walls, soffits or the ground.

  2. Step 2: Plan

We explain where the nest is and how we'll handle it. You receive a quote and approve the price before any treatment begins.

  3. Step 3: Treat

We apply a targeted treatment directly into the nest to deal with the colony.

  4. Step 4: Remove & prevent

Where possible, we remove the nest. That depends on its location, how accessible it is and the treatment method. We also share tips to make your property less inviting next season.

Before we arrive

Wasp treatment needs very little preparation from you. Until we get there:

  • Keep people away from the nest area, and don't block or disturb the entrance.
  • Don't spray, knock down or seal up the nest yourself. This can make wasps aggressive or drive them into your home.
  • Note where you've seen the wasps coming and going.
  • Make sure we can safely reach the area — unlock gates and move cars or furniture if needed.
  • If anyone in your home has a severe sting allergy, keep them indoors and let us know when you get in touch.
  • On the day, follow your technician's instructions about staying away from the nest or remaining indoors.

Final preparation instructions will be provided based on the treatment method and product requirements.

Service warranty available, conditions apply. Subject to following our preparation and prevention recommendations.

Common questions

When is wasp season?
Wasps are active from spring to fall. Nests grow through the summer, so late summer is usually when they're biggest and most aggressive. Treating a nest early is easier.
Will you remove the nest?
Where possible. Wasp and hornet service is offered subject to inspection and safe access. Whether a nest can be removed depends on its location, how accessible it is and the treatment method.
Can I stay home during treatment?
Follow your technician's instructions about staying away from the nest or remaining indoors. Until then, keep people away from the nest area.
Do you treat carpenter bees and cicada killers?
Yes. We treat carpenter bees nesting in wood and cicada killers burrowing in lawns. We'll confirm what you have first.
Can I remove a small nest myself?
We don't recommend it. Even small nests can have hidden sections, and some wasps sting more than once. A professional treatment lowers the risk of being stung.
Will wasps come back next year?
Wasps don't reuse old nests, but new queens may build in the same area if it's sheltered. We'll point out spots on your property that tend to attract nests.
